One of the most famous chinese restaurants in Manila is the President’s Restaurant in Ongpin. The much famed President’s restaurant in Ongpin has a somehow cheaper alternative in the form of the President’s Tea House on Salazar St. (which is actually a stone’s throw away from the President Restaurant itself). The tea house is a smaller version and a more affordable version because of the ambiance and the menu that’s being offered. Right beside one of my favourite chinese snack stores (Shin Tai-Shang Store) on Salazar, BF and I decided to have a quick “snack” in the tea house.

For our “snack” we decided to try some of their dimsum and of course some prawns for me. The dimsum offerings in President Tea House is one of the most delicious and affordable dimsum that I’ve had. It really is a sweet deal. i wish they had a branch in powerplant although it wouldn’t be as authentic naman.

SHARK’S FIN DUMPLINGS. Really good!!

HAKAO (SHRIMP DUMPLINGS). Nice whole shrimps and the wrapper was not too thick, just right.

ASADO SIOPAO. Although the asado wasn’t exceptional I like the softness of the dough of this siopao

BUTTERED PRAWNS WITH SHRIMP. Large yummy prawns with cheese and some sweet and sour sauce on the side. I loved the prawns.
We also ordered some seafood fried rice which was also good. The servings are quite large and is good to share. Check out some of their menu here.
President’s Tea house is really a good place to eat if you’re on a budget or not. They have many interesting items on their menu. The servers are helpful and will give suggestions on what you can order. The place is relatively clean as well compared to other Chinese restaurants. They serve complimentary tea too! Head on over to President’s Tea house to grab some dimsum.

Hi there! I was craving for chinese food and was very curious about President tea house so I asked my dad who happens to know every alley in binondo to treat me there… and i have to say I am very satisfied. Prices are very reasonable (almost the same price as Chowking), very authentic chinese food, one of the cleanest restaurant/chinese eatery in BInondo and the prices are quite reasonable (way cheaper than North Park and Luk Yuen). I mean for big bowl of noodle soup, the price of P70 cannot be beaten. Its the ultimate comfort food with the warm tasty broth, though i find the meat a bit rubbery? I intend to go back there and try the minced pigeon wrapped in lettuce and my fave chinese dish scallops with brocolli. I love the fried frog legs in garlic and chili (a bit pricey compared to other dishes here), but superb. Yum Yum. Thanks for your post about this.
Oh I reviewed your other posts and found out you are a law student? hehehe… I know the stress you are going thru but believe me after passing… the stress would only get worse! hahaha
looking forward to ur other posts and food reviews. Again, Thank you.

I miss ongpin. If you drop by in that area again, go to Bee Tin store. It’s the store on the corner of Salazar and Ongpin, almost in the middle of the two President’s. They sell super cheap take home chinese delicacies. Try the “ma pa”, parang tapa, and the “ma hu”, which pork or beef floss. These cost as low as 40php (1/4 kg ata to). Thouhg I’m not sure if the prices went up already. =P
Ay! Another place you can try is the Golden Fortune Restaurant. Past 9 or 10PM, they sell dimsum for as low as Php35 na lang. It’s on Soler Street, perpendicular to the dead end side of Gandara Street. There’s also a branch in T.M. Kalaw. =*
